Travel fishing with Salty Dog

Travel fishing isn’t all about the catch, it’s about the adventure. Want to have some fun on the water and get to know far off exotic destinations? Do you want inside information about Salty Dog’s upcoming trips? Then keep reading.

We all need some down time sometimes: spending time doing that one thing we love most. Personally I can’t wait to get to the end of the week, pack up the gear, and head down to the boat to chase some bass. And equally, I cannot get more excited when I have a trip planned to a secluded destination to go after the big game fish. To show clients the places Salty Dog loves to visit and fish the waters we get enthusiastic about is one of the most satisfying parts of the job.

Why travel fishing?

I especially love this quote by Henry David Thoreau and think it says it all:

“Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.”

This quote begs the question: why do you fish? I found a forum while Googling, and the participants estimate that there are around 220 million recreational fishermen worldwide! All those people can’t be wrong, right? Which of the following reasons are your reasons, or do they tick all the boxes for you?

Camaraderie

To get outside and enjoy nature

To be on or near the water

Travel Fishing is a new challenge every time you hit the water

To dream…

The unknown…

For me, it’s definitely a combination of all of the above. Even better, share your love of the sport with your family and take them on a once in a life time adventure holiday. If you have any other reasons about why fishing, and especially travel fishing, is the best recreational sport around, please let us know in the comments below!

Where to go travel fishing?

Salty Dog has a soft spot for West Africa and love fishing it’s remote and secluded beaches and waters. You’ll see from our images in the galleries, that our focus is on exploring the cultures as much as it is going after the abundant game fish in the area. We’ve been to Liberia, Sierra Leone, Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, São Tomé and Príncipe – more than once to some of these countries.

With every trip there is something new to see and experience. There is something incredibly special about casting for a Crevalle Jack, with Elephant roaming the same spot on the beach as you! And not everyone would put ‘straddling on the equator’ on their bucket list, but it is quite a magical experience if you ever get the chance. West Africa has so much to offer the travelling angler, and if you’re serious about adventure fishing it’s a must!
